Policeman and Robber

The Policeman and Robber set, released under the reference 952016-1, emerged as part of the Lego City theme. These sets were typically produced as promotional polybags or small-scale auxiliary builds designed to expand existing urban layouts, reflecting the long-standing tradition of the Police sub-theme which has served as a cornerstone of the City line since its inception in the late 1970s. The set was created to provide accessible, affordable entry points for younger builders to populate their cities with recognizable archetypes.

The design of the minifigures follows the established aesthetic of the City theme, characterized by simple, clean lines and iconic accessories like the classic police cap and the striped prisoner torso. By focusing on the interplay between law enforcement and criminality, the design team aimed to capture a narrative-driven play pattern that has been a staple of the line for decades. These sets were generally well-received by collectors and parents for their utility in bolstering the civilian population of larger Lego displays without requiring a significant investment.
