Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Released in 2016 as the first flagship model in the LEGO Technic Ultimate Car Concept series, set 42056-1 was designed to bridge the gap between traditional toy construction and high-end automotive engineering. It was developed in close collaboration with Porsche AG to ensure that the internal mechanisms, such as the working PDK gearbox with paddle shifters and the flat-six engine with moving pistons, accurately reflected the mechanics of the real-world 911 GT3 RS. The set arrived in a premium black presentation box that functioned as a collector’s item in its own right, signaling a shift in LEGO’s strategy toward an older, more affluent demographic of enthusiasts.

The design was led by LEGO designer Andrew Woodman, who focused on capturing the iconic silhouette and aerodynamic profile of the Porsche while utilizing the complex Technic building system. Upon its release, the model was well-received by the enthusiast community for its sophisticated assembly process and authentic orange color palette. It set a new standard for the theme, establishing a design language that prioritized structural integrity and mechanical realism, eventually paving the way for future flagship supercar collaborations within the Technic line.
