Protector of Jungle

The Protector of Jungle, set 70778-1, was released in early 2015 as part of the second iteration of the BIONICLE theme following the line's return from a multi-year hiatus. Designed to represent a guardian figure from the island of Okoto, the set features a specialized build utilizing the Constraction system, which relies on a skeletal frame covered by custom armor shells and a gear-based projectile launcher. These sets were intended to appeal to both younger builders and legacy fans who favored the complex, posable mechanical aesthetics of the original 2001-2010 run.

The design of the Protector series was characterized by a unified aesthetic language involving masks, transparent armor elements, and a distinct color scheme of green and lime to evoke a forest environment. The sets were generally well-received for their high level of articulation and the playability offered by the integrated rapid-fire shooters. While the theme faced criticism from some collectors for the simplification of the building process compared to later years of the original BIONICLE run, the Protectors were viewed as successful entry-level sets that anchored the 2015 relaunch by providing essential supporting characters for the central Toa figures.
