Where it came from
The LEGO Duplo Push Locomotive, set number 2931-1, was released in the late 1990s as part of a concerted effort by the LEGO Group to expand their preschool train systems. Designed for toddlers, the set prioritized tactile play and simplicity, featuring large, chunky components compatible with the broader Duplo brick system to allow for seamless integration with other building sets.
The aesthetic of the 2931-1 locomotive reflects the design language of the era, emphasizing primary colors and rounded, safe edges. It was developed to encourage motor skill development through a 'push-and-go' mechanism rather than complex electronics. The set was well-received by parents for its durability, establishing a classic look that has influenced the silhouette of subsequent generations of Duplo train engines.
