Where it came from
The Ramboll Oil Platform model, cataloged as RAMBOLL-1, was produced as a corporate promotional piece commissioned by Ramboll, the Denmark-based engineering and architecture consultancy. Created to showcase the firm's expertise in offshore infrastructure, the model was designed for use in professional presentations, trade exhibitions, and as a commemorative gift for stakeholders involved in major energy projects. Its design reflects the technical precision of real-world North Sea platforms, emphasizing the modular structural engineering that defines the company's maritime construction division.
The aesthetic of the piece is strictly utilitarian, mirroring the industrial design language Ramboll employs in its civil engineering work. By distilling the complex geometry of an oil platform into a desktop-scale model, the designers aimed to translate high-stakes industrial utility into a tactile, symbolic object. It is generally regarded within the engineering community as a niche collector's item, valued primarily by professionals in the offshore oil and gas sector rather than commercial toy collectors.
