Where it came from
Released in 1997 as part of the Lego Town series, the Recycle Truck (set 6564-1) was designed to reflect the growing emphasis on environmental awareness and community services in children's play themes during the late 1990s. The set features a functional, utilitarian aesthetic consistent with the city-building modules of the era, providing a practical vehicle for the included sanitation worker minifigure.
The design prioritizes playability through its tilt-bed mechanism and dedicated storage for the accompanying waste bin containers. While it did not feature the complex building techniques seen in modern Technic or Creator Expert sets, it was well-received by fans of the Town theme for its ability to integrate seamlessly into existing municipal dioramas and its inclusion of early printed 'recycle' logo tiles, which added a touch of realism to the model.
