Where it came from
The 375-3 Refrigerator Truck and Trailer was released by LEGO in 1977 as part of the Legoland series, a cornerstone of the company's mid-century expansion into modular, themed vehicle construction. Designed during an era when LEGO focused on realistic, functional depictions of commercial transport, the set provided a glimpse into the logistics of the time, emphasizing the role of cold-chain infrastructure in everyday commerce.
The design prioritizes the utilitarian aesthetic of 1970s heavy-duty trucking, featuring a brick-built refrigerated trailer distinct from the standard flatbeds of the period. Because it utilized universal, non-specialized bricks, the set was praised by contemporary builders for its versatility, though it was eventually eclipsed by the introduction of specialized large-piece chassis and minifigure-scale city sets that shifted the brand toward more stylized play.
