Where it came from
Released in 2017 as part of the Lego BrickHeadz line, the Robin set 41587-1 was created to capitalize on the popularity of the film The Lego Batman Movie. This theme was designed to offer stylized, collectible versions of iconic pop culture characters, utilizing a distinct blocky aesthetic characterized by oversized heads and simplified features. The design process focused on translating established comic book archetypes into a uniform, buildable format that would appeal to both adult collectors and younger fans of the franchise.
The figure was illustrated and designed by the Lego creative team to mirror the specific aesthetic of the companion Batman set released simultaneously. Its reception was tied to the broader launch of the BrickHeadz series, which sought to establish a new category of display-oriented merchandise. While the line has since expanded to include dozens of intellectual properties, this early wave remains a notable example of the company’s efforts to diversify its product reach through a consistent and recognizable design language.
