Where it came from
The Robotics Discovery Set, released under set number 9735-1, emerged in the early 2000s as part of a series designed to introduce younger users to the fundamentals of mechanical engineering and early automation. Developed during a period when educational toy manufacturers were increasingly focusing on STEM concepts, the set was marketed as an entry-level platform for building motorized models that could react to basic environmental stimuli.
The design of the set focuses on modular components and a simplified programming interface intended to demystify robotics for hobbyists. While the collection is considered a niche educational tool rather than a mass-market toy, it remains notable among enthusiasts for its sturdy construction and its role in bridging the gap between basic brick-building sets and more complex, programmable robotics platforms of the era.
