Where it came from
Released in 2008 as part of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes line, the Sandman Attacks set was designed to capture a dynamic action sequence featuring the character Flint Marko, also known as Sandman. The set reflects the broader transition during the mid-2000s where LEGO began expanding its licensing partnerships to include prominent comic book properties, aiming to provide collectors and fans with brick-built representations of iconic cinematic and graphic novel battles.
The set was crafted by LEGO designers to emphasize the shifting, granular nature of the character through specialized pieces and a central play feature that allows the Sandman figure to 'launch' from his base. Upon its release, it was received as a functional, mid-sized addition to the Marvel theme, valued by collectors primarily for its inclusion of the Sandman minifigure, which featured unique printing to distinguish the character from standard human figures in the series.
