Where it came from
Released in 1983, the 5190 Seats and Windscreens set belongs to the LEGO supplemental line, a series of small, polybagged or boxed sets designed to provide builders with specialized parts rather than a traditional construction model. This specific set was intended to allow children to upgrade or repair their existing vehicle fleets, offering a selection of seating elements and transparent windscreen pieces that were highly sought after during the early 1980s era of LEGO City and Town themes.
The design of these components reflects the aesthetic shift in early eighties LEGO production toward more diverse vehicular accessories. As the company moved to expand the playability of its basic sets, designers prioritized these modular packs to encourage creative customization. The set was received as a practical utility pack for avid builders, remaining a notable example of how the company supported the open-ended design philosophy that defined its mid-century output.
