Where it came from
Released in 2021 as part of the LEGO DOTS line, the Secret Boxes set was designed to offer children a customizable, functional storage solution. The DOTS theme emerged from a desire to merge traditional construction play with arts and crafts, encouraging users to personalize small-scale objects using colorful tile pieces. This particular set focuses on utility and expression, providing two lockable boxes intended for storing small trinkets or secret notes.
The design prioritizes modularity and aesthetic versatility, reflecting the broader LEGO strategy of appealing to a demographic interested in desk organization and interior decor. By incorporating flat plates and an array of pattern-ready tiles, the set moves away from complex mechanical building in favor of repetitive, meditative decoration. Like much of the DOTS series, it was received as a bridge between structural engineering and personal creativity, often utilized as a secondary accessory to brighten workspaces or bedrooms.
