Where it came from
The Shark Fisherman set, numbered 1790-1, was released in 1978 as part of the early LEGO Legoland theme. It represents a classic era of the brand’s design philosophy, focusing on simple, functional builds that encouraged open-ended imaginative play. The set features a small seafaring vessel and a single minifigure, reflecting the maritime-themed small kits that were staples of late 1970s retail shelves.
The design follows the iconic aesthetic of the first generation of LEGO minifigures, which lacked the printed facial expressions used in later years. This set highlights the historical transition period where LEGO transitioned from brick-built people to the standardized minifigure system. It remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors interested in the foundational years of the company's modular construction sets.
