Where it came from
Released in 1987 as part of the LEGO Castle theme, the Siege Cart (set 6012) represents a functional expansion to the iconic Fright Knights and classic Castle sets of the era. It was designed during a period when LEGO was shifting focus toward more modular, play-oriented siege equipment, providing builders with a compact, horse-drawn catapult mechanism that could realistically interact with castle fortifications.
The design follows the distinct aesthetic of 1980s LEGO sets, utilizing a primary palette of yellow, black, and grey pieces to ensure compatibility across the Castle line. While the set is relatively simple in its construction, it was well-received by fans for its inclusion of a unique armored knight minifigure and a functional spring-loaded catapult, establishing a template for support vehicles in subsequent castle-themed releases.
