Where it came from
The LEGO Silent Mary, set number 71042, was released in 2017 to coincide with the premiere of the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The set serves as a centerpiece display model of the film's primary antagonist vessel, a ghost ship renowned for its decaying, spectral appearance. Designed by LEGO to capture the intricate, skeletal structure of the ship, the model features a hinged bow and a collapsing mast mechanism that mimics the vessel's ability to hunt down prey in the movie.
The design team focused on incorporating complex building techniques to reflect the ship's weathered and cursed aesthetic, utilizing a mix of dark gray, tan, and brown elements to suggest rot and age. Upon its release, the set was noted by collectors for its unique display stand and the inclusion of detailed minifigures, including a Captain Salazar figure with a translucent hair piece. It remains a notable example of large-scale cinematic tie-in sets that prioritize atmospheric detail and structural complexity over traditional playability.
