Where it came from
The 211-2 Small House Set was released by LEGO in 1957 as part of the early Town Plan series. This set reflects the company’s transition from wooden toys to the modern plastic interlocking brick system, focusing on simple, domestic scenes that encouraged children to engage in foundational urban planning and imaginative play. It represents a period when LEGO was expanding its international market presence by offering accessible, standalone sets that could be integrated into larger, modular layouts.
The design of the 211-2 is quintessential of late 1950s LEGO aesthetics, characterized by its reliance on basic brick colors and a functional, utilitarian structure. While the designers for these early sets were often anonymous in-house staff, the set is celebrated by historians for its minimalist approach and the charm of its period-accurate architecture. Upon its release, it was well-received for its durability and versatility, serving as a staple building block for enthusiasts who were just beginning to collect the system.
