Where it came from
The Spring Animal Playground, released under set number 40709-1, was introduced as a seasonal LEGO promotional item. It features a whimsical garden scene complete with a buildable tree, a swing, and small animal figures. Like many sets in this category, it was designed to appeal to builders looking for small, character-driven dioramas that fit easily into existing layouts or can be displayed as standalone seasonal decor.
The design philosophy behind this set emphasizes compact storytelling and accessibility. By utilizing a small parts count, the designers focused on creating recognizable, playful figures and simple mechanical elements like the swing. It arrived as part of the brand's ongoing effort to provide affordable, accessible sets that celebrate the arrival of spring, and it was generally well-received by collectors who appreciate the inclusion of unique animal pieces and vibrant color palettes in miniature format.
