Where it came from
The Spruce Tree Large 2 1/2, cataloged under set number 3738-1, was released as part of the LEGO System line in the early 1980s. Designed to add environmental realism to evolving town and forest-themed displays, the piece represents an era when the company began diversifying its offerings beyond basic bricks to include specialized botanical elements that allowed builders to construct more immersive landscapes.
The design of this spruce tree utilizes a sturdy, molded base connected to a series of modular plastic boughs that click into a central pillar. This construction reflected the company's focus on modularity and reconfigurability during that decade, providing a consistent aesthetic that would eventually become a staple of many woodland-themed sets throughout the following decades.
