Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Friends line, the Squirrel's Tree House set 41017-1 was designed as an entry-level building experience. The Friends theme, introduced in 2012, shifted the company's approach to girl-focused construction toys by utilizing a specific color palette and more detailed, lifestyle-oriented minifigures known as mini-dolls. This set aimed to capture a whimsical, nature-inspired aesthetic while remaining accessible for younger builders due to its modest piece count.
The design emphasizes a compact, modular play experience, centering on a small tree structure that houses a pet squirrel. It reflects the broader design philosophy of the Friends series, which prioritized interior play spaces and animal companions to encourage imaginative role-playing. Upon its release, it was well-received by parents and collectors for its charm and the inclusion of unique animal elements, serving as a popular companion piece to the larger sets within the Heartlake City collection.
