Where it came from
The 789-2 Suitcase in red was released as part of a miscellaneous promotional or accessory line during the mid-20th century, a period when functional molded plastic and metal travel goods became hallmarks of mid-century design. It was created to provide a durable, lightweight solution for travel at a time when consumer demand for stylized, portable luggage was rapidly increasing.
The design emphasizes a minimalist aesthetic, favoring clean lines and the vibrant, high-visibility red hue that was popular in industrial consumer products of that era. While the designer remains uncredited, the piece reflects the era's focus on practical utility paired with a bold, approachable color palette that allowed it to stand out against the more muted, traditional leather luggage of the time.
