Where it came from
The Sunshine Home, released as set 3119-1, debuted in 1980 as part of the LEGO Fabuland theme. This line was conceived to bridge the gap between DUPLO and standard LEGO bricks, featuring unique, larger figures with anthropomorphic animal heads and specialized modular building elements. The set was designed to foster imaginative play by offering a whimsical, story-driven environment that felt distinct from the more structural or technical themes popular at the time.
The aesthetic of the Sunshine Home reflects the vibrant, colorful design language prevalent in late 1970s and early 1980s European toy design. Created by the Danish team led by designer Fred Perrey, the theme emphasized playability and character-based narratives over complex construction. While Fabuland eventually concluded production in 1989, it remains a nostalgic touchstone for collectors who appreciate its experimental approach to character-centric building sets.
