Where it came from
The Super Mushroom Surprise, set number 30385-1, was released by the LEGO Group in 2020 as a promotional polybag item. It was designed to coincide with the launch of the LEGO Super Mario interactive theme, serving as an accessible introduction to the brick-built representation of the iconic Mushroom Kingdom elements. The set features a classic Super Mushroom design intended to capture the recognizable silhouette of the character from the Nintendo franchise.
The design utilizes a straightforward assembly to represent the Super Mushroom, focusing on the character's signature spotted cap and neutral base. As a promotional polybag, it was distributed through various retail channels and LEGO store events to build anticipation for the wider Super Mario line. The set was generally well-received by collectors for its compact size and its utility as a desktop display piece that successfully mirrors the aesthetic of the digital game assets.
