Where it came from
The 2011 Target Dog plush, often referred to as Bullseye, was released as part of the retailer's seasonal promotional merchandising. These items were designed to serve as physical mascots for the brand, reinforcing the recognizable image of the Bull Terrier with the red target painted around one eye. The design focuses on a minimalist, approachable aesthetic meant to appeal to families shopping in the toy and home goods aisles.
The character originated in 1999 as a marketing tool to humanize the brand, and by 2011, the plush versions had become standard staples in the company's annual inventory. These items were not intended for high-end collectible status but rather as accessible mementos for loyal customers. They were produced in large quantities to be sold at an affordable price point, reflecting the company’s broader mission to provide designer-influenced items to a mass-market audience.
