Released in 2016 as part of the Lego Bionicle 'Creature' sub-theme, Terak – Creature of Earth was designed to complement the Toa Onua – Uniter of Earth set. The character design continues the aesthetic established during the 2015 Bionicle revival, utilizing the CCBS (Character and Creature Building System) to create a rugged, mole-like aesthetic characterized by large digging claws and a crystalline back structure. This set was conceived to facilitate the 'uniting' feature of the 2016 wave, allowing the creature to physically attach to the back of its corresponding Toa figure.
