Where it came from
Released in 2006 as part of the initial wave of the Lego Batman theme, this set captures a specific aesthetic era of the Caped Crusader's lore. The set was designed to reflect the gritty, tech-heavy sensibilities of the mid-2000s, capitalizing on the renewed interest in Batman media following the start of the Dark Knight trilogy. It was created to provide a dedicated aquatic vehicle for the theme, balancing functional play features with the dark, angular design language characteristic of the Lego Batman line during that period.
The set includes minifigures of Batman and Killer Croc, the latter being a notable highlight for collectors due to the unique molded headpiece designed to capture the character's reptilian appearance. The design process focused on translating the Batboat's sleek, aggressive silhouette into bricks while maintaining the durability expected of a play-oriented set. Upon release, it was well-received by fans for its inclusion of a high-demand villain and its successful implementation of a classic comic book pursuit dynamic.
