Where it came from
Released in 2011 as part of the LEGO Harry Potter theme, set 4866-1 depicts the chaotic, triple-decker purple bus from the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This iteration was designed to capture the vehicle's whimsical, improbable architecture, featuring a removable roof and side panels to allow access to the interior, as well as a sliding bed mechanism that mimics the bus's motion during its high-speed traversal through London.
The set was produced during a period of renewed interest in the Harry Potter franchise, coinciding with the conclusion of the film series. It was received favorably by collectors for its clever use of color and structural parts to represent the bus's unique aesthetic, standing out in the mid-range price bracket for its inclusion of iconic minifigures like Stan Shunpike, Ernie Prang, and Harry Potter himself.
