Where it came from
Released in 2021, The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain (80024-1) serves as a cornerstone of the Monkie Kid theme, a line introduced by the LEGO Group to specifically appeal to the Chinese market. The set draws direct inspiration from the classic 16th-century Chinese novel 'Journey to the West,' reimagining the mythical birthplace of the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, through a modern, vibrant construction aesthetic.
The design was conceived to balance architectural storytelling with interactive play features, allowing builders to recreate key narrative arcs such as the Monkey King’s birth and his rise to leadership among his kin. The set was praised by reviewers and fans alike for its intricate use of color, varied minifigure selection, and its success in blending traditional cultural motifs with contemporary building techniques.
