Where it came from
Released in 2008 as part of the LEGO Batman line, this set was designed to coincide with the release of Christopher Nolan’s film, The Dark Knight. The model features a unique iteration of the Batmobile, colloquially known as the Tumbler, and was marketed under the LEGO Batman: The Videogame era of tie-in products. Its release reflected a shift in the brand’s strategy to incorporate more gritty, cinematic aesthetics into their DC-licensed themes.
The set was designed by LEGO staff to capture the rugged, military-grade appearance of the film vehicle, balancing technical complexity with playability. It notably includes a custom Joker-themed ice cream truck, which serves as a narrative counterpart to the Tumbler. While received warmly by enthusiasts for its inclusion of the Heath Ledger-inspired Joker minifigure, it remains a distinct relic of the earlier, less modular era of LEGO vehicle design.
