Where it came from
The TIE Advanced Prototype (set 75128) was released in 2016 as part of the LEGO Star Wars Microfighters series. This line was conceived to offer simplified, caricature-like versions of iconic starships, focusing on a balance between recognizable silhouettes and small-scale playability. The set specifically depicts the experimental craft utilized by the Inquisitorius in the animated series Star Wars Rebels, reflecting the brand's commitment to expanding beyond the core film trilogies to incorporate wider media.
The design prioritizes the distinct folding-wing mechanism and the sleek, angular cockpit geometry that defines the TIE Advanced. While constrained by the small piece count inherent to the Microfighters format, the model manages to capture the menacing aesthetic of the source material. Upon its release, the set was noted by collectors for its inclusion of the Grand Inquisitor minifigure, which featured unique printing and a specialized helmet piece that accurately recreated the character's appearance from the show.
