Where it came from
Toa Pohatu (8687-1) was released in 2008 as part of the Bionicle 'Phantoka' subtheme. This iteration reimagined the original 2001 character with a modernized, mid-air combat design, featuring specialized wing attachments and translucent components intended to represent the character's elemental affinity for stone and flight.
The set was designed during a period when the Bionicle line sought to introduce complex aerial mechanics and interconnectivity features. Like other figures in the Phantoka wave, Pohatu featured a connector system allowing him to physically link with smaller 'Matoran' sets, a design choice aimed at enhancing the interactive play experience for the consumer base.
