Where it came from
Released in 2022 to coincide with the resurgence of interest in the Avatar franchise ahead of its sequel, this LEGO set depicts the iconic scene featuring the Toruk, a massive leonopteryx, and the sacred Tree of Souls. The set was developed as part of a collaboration between the LEGO Group and Lightstorm Entertainment to capture the bioluminescent aesthetic of the moon of Pandora, utilizing specialized translucent elements and custom molded wing components to replicate the creature's formidable appearance.
The design process focused on translating the intricate, organic textures of Pandora into the rigid medium of plastic bricks. By incorporating vibrant color palettes and unique minifigure prints, the design team aimed to balance playability with display value for adult fans and collectors. Upon its release, the set was noted for its use of glow-in-the-dark pieces and its faithful recreation of the film's climactic visual motifs, serving as a distinct entry in the broader LEGO licensed portfolio.
