Where it came from
Released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Overwatch theme, this set, numbered 75970-1, was created to celebrate the popular hero-based shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment. The theme sought to translate the fast-paced, stylized aesthetics of the digital game into the physical medium of construction bricks, catering to both the dedicated fan base of the game and adult collectors of the LEGO brand.
The set depicts a specific segment of the 'Watchpoint: Gibraltar' map, featuring the iconic satellite drone alongside minifigures of Tracer and Widowmaker. The design focus was on capturing the distinct silhouettes and weapon loadouts of the two characters, utilizing printed elements and specialized hair pieces to maintain the recognizable look of the game's art style. Upon its release, it was noted for its accessibility and as an effective representation of the game's core conflict, serving as an affordable entry point into the wider Overwatch collection.
