Train with 12V Electric Motor

Released in the early 1960s, the 720-2 Train with 12V Electric Motor represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of building sets, marking the company's shift toward incorporating functional electrification. Designed during a period when the brand was moving away from simple static bricks toward more complex, motorized mechanical systems, this set provided a foundational experience for enthusiasts interested in animation and automation. The design prioritized modularity, allowing the motor to be integrated seamlessly into the chassis, which established a technical standard that influenced the engineering of subsequent motorized transport sets for decades.

The 12V motor system was a significant engineering undertaking for the manufacturer, intended to provide a more consistent and powerful experience than the previous 4.5V battery-operated options. It was conceived by the company's design team to appeal to hobbyists who demanded greater reliability for longer track runs and complex layouts. Upon its release, the set was well-regarded for its robustness and the ingenuity of its gear assembly, effectively bridging the gap between a toy and a functional model railway system, and solidifying the brand's reputation for high-quality, long-lasting mechanical components.
