Where it came from
The 850851-1 Tree Holiday Bauble was released by The LEGO Group during the 2013 holiday season. Designed as a seasonal promotional item, the set features a clear, spherical plastic ornament that houses a small, buildable evergreen tree constructed from classic bricks. This bauble was marketed as a festive ornament that collectors could assemble and display on a Christmas tree, bridging the gap between traditional seasonal decor and the brand's signature building experience.
The design emphasizes simplicity and portability, reflecting the company’s focus on small-scale, accessible holiday gifts during the early 2010s. By housing the model within a protective, transparent globe, the creators intended to keep the delicate build secure while allowing it to hang effectively from branches. It was well-received by fans of the brand for its clever use of space and served as a nostalgic, buildable alternative to mass-produced glass ornaments.
