Umarak the Hunter

Released in 2016 as part of the Bionicle reboot, Umarak the Hunter was designed to serve as the primary antagonist for the Toa during the winter wave. The set reflects a departure from the traditional elemental heroes, utilizing a darker, more predatory aesthetic defined by bone-like armor pieces and a distinct deer-skull-inspired mask. This design direction sought to capture a feral, primordial essence that contrasted with the more polished, heroic builds of the protagonists, marking a shift in the storytelling tone of the second generation of Bionicle.

The set was engineered by the LEGO design team to incorporate the universal gear function common to the line, allowing for a swinging torso movement, while introducing complex limb articulation suitable for a hunter character. It was generally well-received by the fan community for its cohesive color scheme and the inclusion of the 'Mask of Control' accessory. Its design represents the technical complexity of the 2015-2016 era, which prioritized ball-and-socket joints to provide the articulation and posing options that had become the hallmark of the action-figure-based theme.
