Where it came from
Vest Friend Rex was released in 2019 as part of the LEGO Minifigures series 71023, which was themed around The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. This specific minifigure represents a variation of the character Rex Dangervest, the rugged, space-faring alter ego of Emmet Brickowski. The design captures Rex’s distinct vest and stubbled appearance, reflecting the film's shift toward a more cynical, action-hero aesthetic compared to the original movie.
The figure was designed by the LEGO Group's internal design team to mirror the protagonist's transformation into a galactic scavenger. As a blind-bagged collectible, it was intended to offer fans a detailed, accessible version of a central character without requiring the purchase of a larger, more expensive playset. The figure was well-received by collectors for its precise printing and the inclusion of signature accessories that define the character's cinematic personality.
