Where it came from
Released in 2015 as part of the second series of LEGO The Simpsons Collectible Minifigures, this figure depicts Waylon Smithers, the devoted assistant to C. Montgomery Burns. The series was designed to expand the roster of Springfield residents beyond the central family, providing fans with iconic background characters rendered in the distinct LEGO aesthetic. This specific iteration captures Smithers in his signature light blue shirt and purple tie, mirroring his appearance throughout the long-running animated series.
The character design was created by the LEGO design team to translate Matt Groening’s two-dimensional animation style into a three-dimensional molded plastic form. By utilizing specialized head molds that accommodate the specific facial proportions of the show's characters, the team sought to balance brand consistency with the unique charm of the source material. Upon release, the set was well-received by collectors for its attention to detail and faithfulness to the characters' established personalities and wardrobe.
