Where it came from
The LEGO Whale (set 40132-1) was released in 2015 as a limited promotional item. It was primarily distributed as a monthly mini-build, a program designed to encourage younger fans to visit retail stores and engage in short, assembly-focused activities. The set is notable for its efficient use of standard blue and white bricks to achieve a recognizable, stylized representation of a humpback whale within a very limited piece count.
The design follows the aesthetic standards of LEGO's micro-scale polybags, focusing on clean lines and immediate visual impact rather than complex internal construction. While it lacks a named lead designer in public records, the set is representative of the internal studio style developed for the promotional build program, which prioritized accessibility and playability for younger builders. It remains a sought-after piece for enthusiasts of marine-themed LEGO sets due to its simple yet effective character design.
