Where it came from
The Wheelchair Racer minifigure was released in 2022 as part of the LEGO Minifigures Series 22, marked as set 71032-12. This piece was significant for being the first LEGO minifigure to feature a wheelchair element molded to accommodate the standard minifigure seating posture, marking a deliberate move toward more inclusive representation within the company’s product lines.
The design was developed by the LEGO design team as a collaborative effort to reflect modern athletics and accessibility. By depicting a Paralympic-style racing athlete, the designers aimed to provide a positive and realistic representation for children with disabilities, ensuring that the character was integrated seamlessly into the play system. The set was generally well-received by the community and disability advocacy groups for its attention to detail and commitment to diversity in play.
