Where it came from
The Wild Animals set, released under set number 45012-1, emerged as part of a line of educational and nature-focused building sets designed to introduce younger children to wildlife diversity. Released in the early 2010s, this collection was produced during a period when the manufacturer was expanding its non-licensed catalog to provide affordable, accessible building experiences that encouraged imaginative play centered on biological themes rather than tie-ins with existing media franchises.
The design of the set focuses on simplistic, block-based animal figures, prioritizing playability and durability over complex structural realism. By utilizing standard elements to represent various species, the designers aimed to foster a tactile learning environment. While the set was not a high-profile collector release, it received modest recognition among parents and educators for its straightforward approach to wildlife education and its compatibility with broader building brick systems.
