Winged Rahi

The Winged Rahi, released in 2005 under the set number 20005, emerged as part of a promotional series associated with the Bionicle universe. These small, accessible sets were designed to expand the world-building of the franchise by introducing supplementary creatures—known as Rahi—that populated the islands of Mata Nui and Metru Nui. The design leaned into the biomechanical aesthetic characteristic of the period, utilizing a modest piece count to offer a quick build that echoed the larger, more complex Bionicle figures while maintaining a distinct, avian-inspired profile.

The creative direction for these smaller sets was centered on portability and playability, intended to serve as accessible entry points for younger builders or as companions to the primary canister sets. During the mid-2000s, the Bionicle design team focused on maintaining a consistent visual language across various scales, ensuring that even these simplified builds featured the iconic ball-and-socket joints and gear-inspired elements that defined the theme's modular construction system. The set was generally well-received by the community for its efficiency in capturing the essence of a creature within a limited brick-based framework.
