The Beanstalk

The Beanstalk, designated card 17 in the Hyperia City set, was introduced as a pivotal location card within the game's expansive urban-fantasy environment. Conceived during the mid-cycle development of the Hyperia expansion, it was designed to represent the vertiginous, vertical stratification of the fictional Hyperia metropolis. The card functions as a strategic anchor, embodying the city's architectural obsession with height and the social divide between the lower districts and the elite spires.

The visual identity of The Beanstalk was crafted to emphasize a sense of impossible scale, utilizing a signature art style that favors high-contrast lighting and sharp, industrial geometry. Critics at the time of its release noted its mechanical complexity, often praising how the card's visual design mirrors its in-game function of facilitating transit between different tiers of the playfield. It remains a notable example of the series' shift toward integrating narrative world-building directly into card mechanics.
