Bard's Attendant // Bard's Attendant

The Bard's Attendant card is part of the Art Series released alongside the Magic: The Gathering 'The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth' set in 2023. These cards were designed to highlight the illustrative talent commissioned for the set, featuring full-art versions of cards that depict scenes from J.R.R. Tolkien’s work. The Art Series cards are non-playable collectibles often found in collector boosters, serving as a standalone gallery that emphasizes the aesthetic interpretation of Middle-earth's characters and inhabitants.

The illustration for this piece was rendered to complement the high-fantasy aesthetic of the set, focusing on the supporting figures of Laketown during the events of The Hobbit. The artist aimed to capture the atmosphere of the bustling, resilient settlement, balancing the gritty, maritime environment with the regal undertones of Bard the Bowman's retinue. Upon release, the series was well-received by fans and collectors who appreciated the dedication to visual world-building, as it provided a closer look at the intricate character designs that are often obscured by gameplay text on standard game cards.
