Where it came from
Dack Fayden was introduced in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set titled Conspiracy, a multiplayer-focused expansion designed to facilitate a draft-centric play experience. As the self-proclaimed greatest thief in the multiverse, Dack was developed by Wizards of the Coast to anchor the narrative of the set, providing a charismatic protagonist whose innate ability to psychometrically read and siphon magic from objects aligned perfectly with the drafting mechanics of the expansion.
The card’s illustration was crafted by Eric Deschamps, who sought to capture Dack’s signature agility and confident, roguish demeanor. By utilizing a vibrant color palette and dynamic pose, Deschamps emphasized the character's role as a planeswalker who thrives amidst chaos. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its flavorful utility in multiplayer formats and its role as the first dedicated planeswalker to originate from the comic book expansions rather than traditional card sets.
