Dust to Dust

Dust to Dust was originally printed as an uncommon in the 1994 Antiquities expansion, a set centered on the lore of the Brothers' War. The card was designed to reflect the set's thematic focus on the artifacts and machinery left behind by the warring factions of Terisiare, serving as a specialized removal spell that could exile two artifacts for a relatively low mana cost. It remains a notable piece of early Magic: The Gathering history, capturing the aesthetic of the game's first year.

The card was later included in the Mystery Booster: Commander Edition, a curated set designed to emulate the experience of drafting from a massive, eclectic pool of cards. Its inclusion in this set was intended to provide players with a functional, efficient utility piece for the Commander format, which relies heavily on powerful artifacts. The artwork, which depicts the erosion and decay of mechanical structures, is credited to Christopher Rush, whose work defined much of the visual identity of the game during its inaugural period.
