Where it came from
Gather the Townsfolk was first released in the 2012 Dark Ascension expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As a white sorcery card, it mechanicaly represents the theme of rallying human survivors against the set's encroaching horror motifs. The version in question is a promotional reprint distributed through the Wizards Play Network, intended to reward players for participating in local game store events during the release window of early 2012.
The artwork for this specific print was created by Igor Kieryluk, whose illustrations for the card capture a desperate, atmospheric scene of commoners banding together. The design was received by the community as a staple utility card for token-based strategies, particularly within the Standard format of its time. It remains a notable piece for collectors focusing on the WPN promotional series due to its distinct frame and limited distribution period.
