Goldvein Pick

The Goldvein Pick was introduced in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Kaldheim. Drawing heavily from Norse mythology and the harsh, icy aesthetics of Scandinavian folklore, the set centered on the plane of Kaldheim, a realm defined by its brutal climate and Viking-inspired culture. The artifact was designed to mechanically represent the rugged, pragmatic toolset of the dwarven inhabitants of the plane, specifically tying into the set's emphasis on treasure tokens as a resource for fueling powerful spells and abilities.

The illustration for the card was created by artist Irina Nordsol Kuzmina, who leaned into the visceral, heavy-metal-infused visual language that characterized much of the Kaldheim art direction. The design focuses on the pick's utilitarian nature, emphasizing the weathered metal and the promise of wealth hidden within the frozen earth.
