Provenance

Where it came from

The Hookblade was introduced as a pivotal gameplay mechanic in the 2011 title Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the item was designed to expand the mobility of the protagonist, Ezio Auditore, during his journey in Constantinople. Its dual-function design—combining a traditional hidden blade with a curved hook—was created to facilitate zipline traversal and advanced combat maneuvers, reflecting the evolution of the Assassin Order's technology.

The conceptualization of the Hookblade was rooted in the series' transition toward more fluid urban traversal. Ubisoft’s design team intended for the implement to serve as a symbol of the aging Master Assassin’s adaptation to the terrain of the Ottoman Empire. Upon release, the design was well-received by fans and critics alike, frequently highlighted as the most significant mechanical innovation in the Ezio trilogy, bridging the gap between historical aesthetics and functional agility.
