Hornet Sting

Hornet Sting was originally printed in the Magic: The Gathering core set Magic 2011, released in July 2010. It is a notable card in the game's history because it represented a rare departure from the color pie philosophy of the time, allowing green, a color that usually focuses on creature combat, to deal direct damage to any target. This design choice was intended to give green players a versatile tool for removing small threats, though it sparked considerable debate among the player base regarding the traditional boundaries between the game's five colors.

The card was later included in 'The List', a curated selection of reprints integrated into Magic: The Gathering Set Boosters starting in 2020. This initiative was designed to provide players with a way to discover iconic or mechanically unique cards from the game's long history. The illustration, created by artist Steve Argyle, captures the aggressive nature of the effect, depicting a magical insectoid strike that emphasizes the card's function as a precision damage spell.
