Hunted Horror was originally introduced in the 2005 set Ravnica: City of Guilds, designed as part of a cycle of creatures that offered high power-to-mana-cost ratios in exchange for granting resources to an opponent. In the context of Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate, this card was reprinted to support the set's multiplayer-focused gameplay, where the political downside of giving an opponent two 3/3 Centaur tokens is often mitigated by the chaos inherent in a four-player game.

The artwork for this specific printing was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose style emphasizes the grotesque, subterranean aesthetic typical of the darker corners of the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse.
